David Walker is an award-winning fine art photographer with a career spanning around 40 years.

David received his Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art) majoring in photography on 28th March 1981. This was a four-year course undertaken at the Tasmanian School of Art.

Upon completing his BA he was employed in the Advertising Department of G. P. Fitzgerald and Company Ltd, a Tasmania wide department store, doing the photography of goods and fashion that was part of the weekly advertising schedule for the company.

He then followed this with a Post Graduate Diploma in Librarianship in 1984. Since that time David has worked as both a librarian and photographer. He has continued to exhibit his artwork, some of which is held in public and private collections. Along with pursuing his artistic desires he was co-author of the award winning publication ‘The Art of Apple Branding: Australian apple case labels and the industry since 1788’. This publication has been cited and used extensively by many authors, historians, artists etc. since its printing indicating the significance of this publication to the catalogue of Australian history.

David’s photography work has been noted as quiet and reflective. As an observer of the interaction of people in urban and city landscapes, such descriptions fit well with David’s philosophy and method of working. A most recent image Early morning-to work’, which won the Photography/digital imaging Section in the Clarence Open Art Exhibition 2018, intrigued viewers with the layers of activity that were occurring within the frame. Much interested and animated discussion followed between the artist and viewers of the image as they discovered more and more aspects to the image the longer they spent time with it.

In addition to his fine art work David has also done commercial work for artists creating images of their artwork for exhibition catalogues and exhibition applications. A most recent job was photography of some historic art works by Curzona ‘Lily’ Allport for the publication Miss Lily: A Portrait of the Artist Curzona Allport by Marion Jameson
